Brandon Blackstock, 48, has died after a private cancer battle, prompting a wave of reflection on his relationships
with Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson. In 2021, after Brandon’s split from Kelly, Reba—who was married to Brandon’s
father, Narvel Blackstock, for 26 years—said she loved them both, calling Kelly a longtime friend and Brandon “like my own son.”
Kelly and Brandon finalized their divorce in 2022 but maintained civility. Kelly confirmed her friendship with Reba endured, noting
they had been close before her marriage. The two continued working together on The Voice, with Kelly crediting Reba as a major influence on her career.
When Kelly learned of Brandon’s illness, she focused on protecting their children, River and Remington, ensuring they maintained a
loving relationship with their father. She avoided speaking negatively about him and postponed Las Vegas shows to be with the kids during his illness.
Brandon’s final public appearance with family, including Reba, was at Rodeo Houston in March 2025. His passing has drawn attention to the mutual
respect and compassion between him, Kelly, and Reba—showing that even after divorce and challenges, family bonds can remain strong in the face of loss.
