7 Homework Problems for Kids That Confuse Even Grown-Ups

As children progress through school, their homework naturally becomes more challenging. But sometimes, even early-grade

assignments seem more confusing than expected. One mom, for example, was baffled by her first-grade son’s English worksheet,

which asked him to circle images with the same ending sound as “fin.” The choices? A hamburger bun, a frog, a jar lid, and a spoon. Online users chimed in,

suggesting that while none of the options rhymed, “bun” and “spoon” shared the same final “n” sound — a subtle phonetic twist many adults might overlook.

In another instance, a parent was stumped by a kindergarten worksheet showing a rabbit with her baby bunnies. The task was to

write a three-letter word describing the image. Many were confused — until a helpful Reddit user proposed “pet” as the answer.

They explained that some worksheets purposely shift expected sounds to the end of the word to challenge the child.

Sometimes, it takes a village — or a subreddit — to solve first-grade riddles.
