Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, is stepping into public life with humility and grace — but she insists politics was never part of her plan. In a recent Citizen McCain podcast interview with Meghan McCain, Usha opened up about her family, faith, and life in Washington. “Three or four years ago, I had absolutely no intention of leading any sort of life in politics,” she said. “It really is that rapid.”
When asked if she could see herself as First Lady one day, Usha brushed off the speculation. “This is a four-year period where I have responsibilities to my family, to myself, and to the country,” she explained. “That’s really what I’m focused on.”
Usha and JD share three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — and she says their family life keeps her grounded. Before her husband’s nomination, Usha worked as an attorney at Munger, Tolles & Olson but stepped back to focus on her family. McCain also surprised listeners by announcing her own pregnancy during the episode, prompting Usha to share mom-to-mom advice.
“I love having three kids,” she said. “They’re a little pack — the oldest helps the youngest, and the youngest just wants to keep up.” For now, Usha says her priorities are clear: “Family first. Faith. Supporting my husband. I’m just along for the ride.”
